Microsoft 365 Business plans at a glance

Microsoft 365 Business is built for organisations with up to 300 users. There are three plans, each adding capability on top of the one below it. Business Basic includes web and mobile Office apps, business email and Teams, ideal for lightweight, web-first teams. Business Standard includes everything in Basic, plus the full desktop Office apps and productivity extras like webinars and Bookings. Business Premium includes everything in Standard, plus advanced cyber security and device management, the strongest fit for businesses that need to protect data and manage staff devices.

Microsoft 365 Business pricing comparison: annual vs monthly

Comparing all three plans on both annual (paid yearly) and monthly billing: Microsoft 365 Business Basic is AU$9.00 per user/month annual or AU$10.80 monthly, an annual total of AU$108.00 per user/year, saving AU$21.60 (17%) per user/year. Microsoft 365 Business Standard is AU$18.70 per user/month annual or AU$22.44 monthly, an annual total of AU$224.40 per user/year, saving AU$44.88 (17%) per user/year. Microsoft 365 Business Premium is AU$32.90 per user/month annual or AU$39.48 monthly, an annual total of AU$394.80 per user/year, saving AU$78.96 (17%) per user/year.

Prices exclude GST. Annual plans are a 12-month commitment that auto-renews. Monthly plans can be cancelled each month.

What is included in each Microsoft 365 Business plan

The feature comparison shows where the meaningful upgrades sit. Web and mobile Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), custom business email with 50 GB mailbox (Exchange Online), and Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and 1 TB OneDrive per user are included in all three plans. Desktop Office apps for Windows and Mac, plus webinars, Bookings, Clipchamp and Loop, are included in Standard and Premium but not Basic. Advanced threat protection (Defender for Business), device management with Intune (mobile and PC), and Entra ID Plan 1, Conditional Access and DLP are included only in Premium.

All three Business plans support up to 300 users. Microsoft updates plan inclusions from time to time, so we confirm current entitlements at the point of quoting.

Annual vs monthly billing: which saves more?

Annual billing is consistently cheaper. Across every plan, paying yearly saves about 17 percent compared with paying month to month. On Business Premium that is nearly AU$79 per user each year, which adds up quickly across a 25 or 50 seat environment.

Monthly billing still has its place. It suits seasonal teams, short-term contractors or any role where headcount changes often, because you keep the flexibility to scale licences down each month. A common approach is to put your stable, permanent staff on annual licences and keep a small pool of monthly licences for temporary users.

How to choose the right Microsoft 365 plan

Choose Basic if your team works mostly in a browser, does not need installed desktop Office, and you want the lowest cost per user. Choose Standard if staff need the full desktop versions of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, plus tools like webinars and online bookings. Choose Premium if you handle sensitive client data, need to manage and secure staff devices, or want to align with the ACSC Essential Eight. Premium folds advanced security and device management into a single licence, which is usually cheaper than buying those add-ons separately.
